There were seven\nteachers subjected to this study and they participated in semi-structured interviews which took\n50 to 75 minutes.\nA category on the teachers' sense of responsibility to their clubs consisted of ideas that they\nrecognise that they have to achieve to keep their clubs alive and to develop them. In this category,\nit became clear that the teachers' ideas were that although they should welcome new members\nto their clubs and make efforts to encourage them to continue kendo, opportunities for regular\nclub members to practise should not be sacrificed and must be ensured.\nA category on the thoughts on teaching consisted of ideas of what they would like to make\ntheir students tackle in practice, and what they would like to make their students learn. In this\ncategory, the teachers expressed a strong emphasis on teaching basics as their teaching approach\nas they believe that it is a necessity to making progress in kendo. The teachers also expressed\nideas that they would like to make their students feel a sense of enjoyment when practising hard\ntowards their kendo goals, and to make them realise the value of kendo in terms of cultivating\ntheir characters, through encouraging them to continue kendo.
