| 内容記述 | Mary McLeod Bethune's social activities were emanated from her strong belief that true American Democracy must assure all people an equal opportunity to succeed in life. For that very reason, she resolved to fight against gender as well as racial discriminations, first of all, through mobilizing women's clubs and inducing race-oriented organizations. Her aim was to help enable the African-American men and women to gain fair share of their economic opportunities in the American society. During the Franklin D. Roosevelt Administration, in pursuing her goals, she took advantage of her friendship with Eleanor Roosevelt. A prominent outcome was her appointment as the Director of the Negro Affairs of the National Youth Administration. In her endeavors, she successfully made it available considerable amount of relief work and college aid to the African-American Youth. Her efforts made it possible for these young people to emerged and become civil rights activists during the periods of the 50's and 60's. |
