The spa-sinters are classified into four groups; sulfur-sinters, sulfosalt-sinters, calcic-sinters and siliceous-sinters. The sulfur-sinters are almost composed of α-sulfur and have yellow to yellowish white colors. They are observed in Noboribetsu-spa(Hokkaido), Numagjiri-Nakanosawa-spa(Fukushima), Kusatu-spa(Gunma), Manza-spa(Gunma), Shirahone-spa(Nagano), Shioe-spa(Kagawa), Unzen-spa(Nagasaki) and Kirishima-spa(Kagoshima). The sufosalt-sinters are composed of sulfosalt minerals such as gypsum (CaSO4/2H2O), halotrichite(FeAl2(SO4)/22H2O), pickeringite(MgAl2(SO4)4/22H2O), jarosite(KFe3(SO4)2(OH)6), alunite(KAl3(SO4)2(OH)6)and alunogen(Al2(SO4)3/17H2O), and have many colors as white, grey, brown, yellow and green. They are observed in Higashiyama-spa(Fukushima), Beppu-spa(Oita), Yufuin-spa(Oita), Kurokawa-spa(Kumamoto) and Tsuetate-spa(Kumamoto). The calcic-sinters are composed of carbonate minerals; calcite and aragonite, and have white to brown colors. They are observed in Kunimi-spa(Iwate), Nagashima-spa(Mie), Kibedani-spa(Shimane) and Nagayu-spa(Oita). The siliceous-sinters are composed of quartz and cristobalite, and have almost white color. They are observed in Beppu-spa(Oita)., 福岡教育大学紀要. 第三分冊, 数学・理科・技術科編, Bulletin of Fukuoka University of Education.
