内容記述 Children aged 4—6 years were given gender-discrimination and gender-constancy tasks. In the
gender-discrimination task, the children were asked to discriminate the gender of two types of
facial stimuli: gender-relevant (i.e., a male with short hair and a female with long hair) and
cross-gender (i.e., a male with long hair and a female with short hair). The gender-constancy task
assessed children's understanding that one's gender does not change after perceptual
transformation such as changing hairstyle to that of the opposite gender. Results showed that
children discriminate more accurately gender-relevant compared to cross-gender stimuli.
Additionally, there was no relation between the level of understanding of gender-constancy and the
accuracy of gender discriminations of both gender-relevant and cross-gender stimuli. These results
are discussed from the perspective of the differences in cognitive processes between understanding
gender constancy and discriminating faces with a cross-gender hairstyle.
