内容記述 | This study attempted to interpret British university kendo club teachers' sense of responsibility to their clubs and thoughts on teaching, and how they have been constructed. There were seven teachers subjected to this study and they participated in semi-structured interviews which took 50 to 75 minutes. A category on the teachers' sense of responsibility to their clubs consisted of ideas that they recognise that they have to achieve to keep their clubs alive and to develop them. In this category, it became clear that the teachers' ideas were that although they should welcome new members to their clubs and make efforts to encourage them to continue kendo, opportunities for regular club members to practise should not be sacrificed and must be ensured. A category on the thoughts on teaching consisted of ideas of what they would like to make their students tackle in practice, and what they would like to make their students learn. In this category, the teachers expressed a strong emphasis on teaching basics as their teaching approach as they believe that it is a necessity to making progress in kendo. The teachers also expressed ideas that they would like to make their students feel a sense of enjoyment when practising hard towards their kendo goals, and to make them realise the value of kendo in terms of cultivating their characters, through encouraging them to continue kendo. It was interpreted that these ideas were related to their views of practising kendo, which have been constructed though continuing kendo as practitioners. |
